01Follow the Ember Spirit

You spawn in Ashfall Village. The Ember Spirit appears within a few seconds and walks you through movement, attacking and interacting. Finish every task in its questline before you wander off — two of them unlock UI panels that exist nowhere else in the game.

02Beat your first boss, Gelum

Gelum is designed to teach the four things every later fight tests:

  • Dodging red attacks — roll, or use the F counter
  • Blocking chip damage without breaking your posture
  • Reading when to attack and when to back off
  • Using Flash Step Q to reposition

03Learn the controls

WASD
Move
M1
Light attack — chains into a combo
M2

M3
Heavy attack — breaks blocks
Q
Flash Step — quick dash for positioning
L
Meditate — used by several clan abilities

04Read the quest colours

  • Red · MainProgresses the story. Always do these first.
  • Blue · SideOptional NPC tasks. Good extra EXP.
  • Yellow · KeyUnlocks features or whole areas.
  • Green · UnlockGrants abilities, transformations or content.
  • Purple · DailyRepeatable, resets at 00:00 server time.

05Understand the three EXP bars

EXP is not one bar. Combat, quest and jutsu EXP fill independently, which is why pure grinding stalls at around level 18.

  • Combat EXP — from enemies and bosses
  • Quest EXP — from completing quests
  • Jutsu EXP — from using specific abilities

06Choose your clan

All four clans, compared for a first playthrough.
ClanStyleAwakening (Lv 25)First-time pick
KaganeBalanced melee and rangedEmber Blade — new skills, longer melee reachSafest
HyorenDefensive, rewards parry timingFrostbind — stat boosts plus a counter-heavy kitPunishing
SazukiRanged precision, low healthStormcall — precision skills at longer rangeFragile
Void-bornSlowest to level, highest ceilingRift Step — mobility and burst damageEndgame

Rerolls cost tokens. If undecided, take Kagane and reroll once you know how parries feel.

07Work through the Outskirts (Lv 1–25)

  • Clear main (red) quests in order
  • Grind normal enemies between quests for combat EXP
  • Do the purple dailies every day for bonus EXP
  • Practise parrying and countering enemy patterns
  • Explore the map for hidden NPCs and quest givers

08Unlock your awakening (Lv 25)

At level 25 you visit your clan elder and unlock your awakening — the point where each clan starts to play differently rather than just hitting harder. What you get is listed in the clan table above.

09Redeem the starter codes

Enter these in the Codes menu (M → Codes). Both were re-tested on the date shown.

3× clan reroll · 1× token booster · 1× focus elixirAug 18, 2026

Codes expire without notice. The live codes page is checked daily.

10Aim for the ultimate forms

  • Kagane → Emberlord: master all three meditation stages, then clear the Blade Realm
  • Hyoren → Eternal Frost: complete the sealing contract chain in order
  • Sazuki → Skybreaker: unlock Stormcall, then finish the Storm Trials
  • Void-born → Ascendant: the longest chain in the game, gated behind the Void Rift

⚠ The one mistake that cannot be undone

Do not press L as a Void-born before level 25. It starts rift attunement early, locks two quest rewards, and cannot be undone.

Other common beginner mistakes

  • Ignoring the quest system and only grinding enemies
  • Skipping daily quests — the cheapest source of rerolls
  • Never learning to parry, which later bosses require
  • Rushing into higher-level zones before your gear is ready
  • Letting stamina hit zero during boss fights

Beginner questions

What is the best clan for beginners?

Kagane. Balanced melee and ranged options, no punishing mechanic to learn first, and the fastest route to a usable awakening at level 25.

How long does it take to reach level 25?

Three to four hours if you clear main quests in order and do the dailies once. Pure grinding takes roughly twice as long because quest EXP is a separate bar.

Do the codes expire?

Yes — most are tied to an update or a player-count milestone and stop working after a few weeks. Both codes above were re-tested on 18 August 2026 on patch 1.9.2.
